Become a Leader, give some Hope !

One splits to two- but whats’s new?
YSR has been the Chief Minister of the state of Andhra Pradesh for a long time and his son is now running the race with great ferocity for the next Chief Minister post. He has no idea what he is doing; he wants to rule the state and that’s it. It doesn’tmatter to him if he is defying the Centre’s commands or going against the constitution. Sonia Gandhi has been “attacked” on his channel, the Sakshi TV and the Late YSR’s loyal supporters have taken to the streets in protest for the news telecast on the channel. If this is the situation with AP and its not surprising to say that this has been the situation for the past one year, how will the people of AP believe any “politician” ever again? If politics stoops so low and people use the media to publicise their strong feelings in an abusive and anti-constitutional way, how will the citizens have any interest to vote? Politicians behave not like humans but as mad people bitten by rabid dogs in Andhra Pradesh. Youth has to try and make a change by taking up active role in politics and lend a helping hand to the people of the State, who are in distress. Politicians in the democracy of AP State are not people’s servants anymore. They have their personal battles to fight and the media is just a battlefield which shows us the meaningless fights. If one state cannot be handled properly by the government and then how can anyone expect to have peace when the state is split into two? It is quite obvious that politics has become a means to fill the pockets of politicians. They are no longer leaders. They are just immoral citizens greedy for wealth and property, while half the state is in distress due to damage caused by natural calamities and such. Service has no longer remained the motto of the government. If this continues, there’s no benefit in splitting the state into two. This would only attract more funds from the centre and by extension more debt to the World Bank while the money goes to the immoral people. Youth must not let this happen. Instead of supporting any party that they feel is fighting their cause, it would be better if they thought wisely, take advantage of the situation to serve the people and form a new party, which contains LEADERS and not Politicians. If this is done, then I doubt if there would be any problem in the state.

Sringeri- the abode of Peace

I am a travel-lover and have visited many places in India. Most of them were famous holy shrines. I visited the Tirupathi temple, the Vaishno Devi shrine and also the Kalighat in Kolkata but have never found so much peace as I found in the Sharada Devi temple at Sringeri. Sringeri is a small town close to Manipal– its 105 kms from Manipal, i.e a 3 hour journey by bus. The beautiful bus journey takes you via hills that bring you closer to the clouds, beautiful streams and forests filled with sandalwood trees. The journey via the Western Ghats really amazes an amateur traveler too. It is a very dull scene when you get to the bus stand at Sringeri but the temple is one of its kinds. You find the temple teeming with people from all parts of Karnataka and other states. Sringeri is the site of the first Matha established by one of ancient India’s greatest philosophers and proponent of the Advaita philosophy- Sri Adi Shankaracharya. The story about how Adi Shankara chooses this spot for establishing one of the four Mathas in the four directions is a remarkable one and truly represents divinity and values. One can enjoy the scenic view of the river Tunga when one gets to the temple. It flows just by the river and provides a very pleasant view. There is this Sri Vidya Teertha Sethu(bridge) built across the Tunga river. When one enters the temple of Sri Sharada Devi, the pilgrim finds it irresistible to leave the place. There is never a long queue in this temple and the Goddess is so lively in the idol.

The sanctity of the temple stimulates the pilgrim to sit and meditate before the Goddess. It gives eternal happiness to a pilgrim who visits the temple for the first time. A must visit shrine for all pilgrims who visit the Udupi Krishna temple.

Learning from Squamate reptiles

This is a story that happened in Japan .
In order to renovate the house, someone in Japan breaks open the wall. Japanese houses normally have a hollow space between the wooden walls. When tearing down the walls, he found that there was a lizard stuck there because a nail from outside hammered into one of its feet.
He sees this, feels pity, and at the same time curious, as when he checked the nail, it was nailed 5 years ago when the house was first built!!!
What happened? The lizard has survived in such position for 5 years .In a dark wall partition for 5 years without moving, it is impossible and mind-boggling.Then he wondered how this lizard survived for 5 years! without moving a single step–since its foot was nailed! So he stopped his work and observed the lizard, what it has been doing, and what and how it has been eating. Later, not knowing from where it came, appears another lizard, with food in its mouth.Ah! He was stunned and touched deeply.
For the lizard that was stuck by nail, another lizard has been feeding it for the past 5 years…
Imagine? It has been doing that untiringly for 5 long years, without giving up hope on its partner.
Imagine what a small creature can do that a creature blessed with a brilliant mind can’t.
Please never abandon your loved ones
Never Say you are Busy When They Really Need You …You May Have The Entire World At Your Feet. But You Might Be The Only World To Them.. A Moment of negligence might break the very heart which loves you through all odds.. Before you say something just takes a moment to break but an entire lifetime to make…

Wonderful how we can learn awesomeness from animals. Nature is the greatest teacher! Creatures that man has detested for long have suddenly become teachers. I have no problem learning lessons from such an authentic source- Nature. It feels proud to be a nature’s student.

Its time for some change

We all know how nature has wreaked havoc in lives of innocent people. That’s primarily because we have no respect for nature or its resources. We exploit anything that comes for free. Too much exploiting has hurt nature. It takes its revenge in forms that are life threatening to human species.  Innocent people having been bearing the brunt of our senseless activities of cutting down trees, dumping sewer and toxic wastes into perennial rivers and global warming on a large scale.  They have been suffering for all sins that we people in industrialised nations are committing. We have to learn that any life is precious and we must take responsibility for the faults we have done. Tsunami has washed away many lives, the floods and rains in AP and norhtern states have taken many more lives in the country. We ought to repent for our sins. We humans have a strange and crazy mentality. Brain is over utilised due to the following thoughts. We tend to think a lot about our happiness and our life which often makes us selfish. We are not happy if we have a single car. We need another to travel or to show case the world of our stature. We are not happy when we travel by foot or public transport. We need to use a two-wheeler- use a bicycle instead- get a life! Can’t we stay happy with vegetarian food? Do we really need to have an other living being to satiate our hunger? Don’t we bother about the millions across the globe who cannot even get a meal a day?  We must ask ourselves- Can’t we live in a simpler way? Do we have to show everyone our riches and lead a life or does it suffice to lead a simple life? Life is God’s gift and it hurts to know that others’ lives are in danger because of our deeds. What are we if not murderers in an indirect way? Why do we need to live this way when so many suffer? Can’t we afford a small change in our life for others’ sake? Lets be the change and see the change we would like to see. Lets start living a simple life. Lets see if the world can become any better than it is right now. Lets see if we can change some aspect of our life(for example we can start with become vegans) and see the change in the world!

My first experience with VSO

I am a member of the Voluntary Service Organisation of Manipal University and I am proud to be one. This organisation has accomplished organising countless activities for children, old people and many others in the 3 years after its inception. It is just an  awesome experience to be a part of this community. Last week I went to the Paediatric ward of the Karturba Medical Hospital to play with children who have been admitted for various ailments. It is so stunning to play with those little kids and their happiness is enough to fill your appetite for a lifetime. Such innocent children playing with us is a very touching experience. I blew balloons and distributed them to children and played with them, made them colour the pictures using crayons and it was fun. It was like being a child again to play with them. It gives me a lot of relief from the mundane college life. “You can learn many things from children.  How much patience you have, for instance.”  ~Franklin P. Jones. Childhood is the most important phase in our life as it forms the basis for the other phases. If we can help make someone’s childhood days memorable, it is a great achievement. It is true- try it if you don’t believe me. Join VSO today!

Life I came to know of lately- Reefs and Shallow seas

Some stunning facts

  • The Pygmy Sea horses – the smallest sea horses of size about 2 cms settle their disputes in a unique way- by Head Butting
  • The Banded sea kraits- a kind of sea snakes lay their eggs on the land and go deep into the sea to hunt- they paralyse their victim by biting them and injecting their venom.
  • The wonderpus octopus has such a powerful bite that it has a special warning display to tell others to keep out of its way.
  • Sea grasses are the only flowering plants that take root in the seas and they can transform the sea bed into an underwater meadow- the largest expanse grows in the shallow waters of Shark Bay in Western Australia and support herds of Dugongs- largest herbivores in the sea.
  • Tail slapping is often used by Dolphins to stun their prey- the dolphins use shallow seas to hunt and they reach the shores of beaches for their prey- simply marvellous – such intelligent creatures!
  • In the desert of Bahrain- where its so hot, only panting helps the sea birds to overcome fatal overheating. They raise their young ones on the desert and save them from the pecking of the neighboring birds.
  • Amazing- the mother whale and its calf send sound signals to communicate with one other above the roar of the ocean by flapping fins on the surface. pic of 15 m long group
  • Sea lions are mammals that are so agile that they can get whatever food they want
  • Urchins fell large areas of kelp forests and form urchin barrens.
  • Sand dollars flat sea urchins and act as a defense against sunflower star fishes but fail and are left with their white skeletons.
